Quaint restaurant with relaxed vibe, spiritual music playing, Buddhist decor. It's a vegan restaurant with one item on the menu that you can order in two sizes. Know that by eating here you are blessing your body with very healthy food and good energy. The waiter comes promptly to take your order. There is tea included that's good. Healthy dessert options too.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the East Bay of all time, and my go-to spot to take visiting friends and family. I've not actually gone vegetarian or vegan full time in my life, but eating here always reminds me that doing so can be both easy and completely delicious. I've never had any dish here that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Not only is the food pleasing to the tastebuds, but my whole body feels nourished and 100% better every time I eat here. Their hot tea is also a delight. You should know that what makes Shangi-La unique, is that each day there is *one balanced meal served,* and you have a choice of portion size, beverages, and any dessert you might want to have. Even after a long day walking around Oakland and at my hungriest, I've always been satisfied with the "moderate" or smaller portion. The owners and staff are all lovely and welcoming without being obtrusive, and the atmosphere feels cozy like a visit to someone's home, yet also spiritually uplifting in its decorations depicting Tibetan Buddhist artwork, and images and quotes from His Holiness the Dali Lama. Shangi-La Vegan is a quintessentially Oakland-Berkeley/Telegraph Avenue kind of establishment, and those can be hard to find these days. A must visit if you are in town!

I'm not vegan, or even vegetarian, but this is hands down my favorite spot for a satisfying, nourishing meal in the Bay Area! The ambiance is peaceful, and the vibe is effortlessly chill. It's not crowded and it's not loud, making it easy to have a conversation without shouting. The service is warm and attentive, and while they serve just one meal, it's truly exceptional. Fresh, wholesome, and deeply satisfying. After eating fast food, you often feel sluggish and regretful. This place is the complete opposite. You leave feeling full yet light, energized, and completely refreshed. It's the kind of meal that not only tastes amazing but makes your body genuinely thank you. Once you try it, you'll keep coming back for more!

The food you didn't know you needed. Home cooking that is full of flavor, incredibly fresh, and well priced. I must admit, I don't typically gravitate towards places that describe themselves as "healthy" when I'm traveling. The food is often bland, overcooked, or paired with flavors that just don't work together. But this place is different. The food feels like a home cooked meal, skillfully prepared and so satisfying, like something I would make. The service was warm and welcoming and the best part is you didn't have a menu to choose from, they just serve you a plate with everything on it. I appreciated the break for my mind and the nourishment for my belly. P.S. The chocolate pie is light and delicious. Just perfection.

Shangri-La makes me feel better from the moment I walk in. You don't have to even choose what you eat for your meal! It's perfect for people with problems making decisions. The only thing that's wrong with it is that I eat here so often that I have no food at home. It's so relaxing being in here, I feel like I'm getting a massage in my brain and belly at the same time

Nutritious and affordable. Preparations are often quite food and always nourishing. I wish more places offered this type of meal at an affordable price. The daily plate system lets them do this with high quality ingredients at scale. I don't eat tofu, but if there's something I can't eat that day there's always several other items on the plate.

Food was very flavorful and delicious. The lentil soup was excellent and the salted carrots were my absolute favorite! We shared a slice of key lime pie after, and it did not disappoint. Service was quick and friendly. Quiet clean restaurant on a busy street.

Coming off a 3 day juice cleanse & this was heaven. Idk what the previous reviews were commenting about the seasoning was delicious today. The lentil soup tasted fresh and wasn't too salty at all. The moderate plate was lovely sized and the food came out hot and fresh. I could see the steam coming off the collard greens, and whatever gravy/sauce they smother it in is yummy. The root veggies and beans were cooked well. My tummy needed warmth, soft, & gentle seasonings. Service was attentive and friendly. Ambiance is cool, clean, & a very cultural, healthy, mom-&-pop biz in downtown-cute type of setting. Duh I'd be back!

This restaurant came highly recommended by two people - one vegan, one not. My colleague and I needed a good lunch after a day of networking, glad-handing and greeting strangers at a grand opening event, and since we didn't know the area, came to rely on the two aforementioned people's advice on places to go. The restaurant was actually close to closing by the time we walked in, but the owner still met us with a smile and invited us to pick a table. The drinks - water and tea - were self-serve and the menu is fixed, so it was easy to settle in and wait for the food. I should clarify: the menu being fixed refers solely to the food items you're served that day. You do get a chance to choose the serving size. We both went with the half or regular plate, and it was more than enough food to fill us up. We were first served a lentil soup, and I knew from the first slurp that I'd love everything coming out of that kitchen. The soup was delicious, spiced but not spicy, warm but not hot. And the serving size was generous, given the amount of food you got for the main dish. The main dish had a wide variety of plant-based options, from a fresh green salad to roasted veggies to boiled greens to lentils prepared a different way to rice. Everything was delightful, but my favorites were the green salad (the dressing was phenomenal) and the other lentils, which were so tasty. I also put a hurtin' on the greens in a cream sauce, because cream. Haha. The owner was super friendly and accommodating, and seemed genuinely pleased when we gushed over the flavor, quality and freshness of the meal. This is definitely worth the drive and a visit, even if you're not a vegan!
